Agreement Between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization on the
Project "Study, Preservation and Maintenance of the Tamgaly Complex, the
Almaty Region, the Republic of Kazakhstan"

The Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter referred to as "the Government") and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization UNESCO, (hereinafter referred to as "UNESCO"), together referred to as the Parties,

taking into consideration the interest in the development and intensification of relationship in order to strengthen the collaboration between- the Republic of Kazakhstan and UNESCO.

taking into consideration, that the Government asked UNESCO to help in realization of the project "Study, preservation and maintenance of the Tamgaly complex, Almaty region, Republic of Kazakhstan",

being guided by that the Director-General of UNESCO's authorized by the General conference to accept aimed means of donors in order to carry out the activities, consistent with aims, politics and activities of UNESCO,

proceeding from that, that on the basis of the Agreement with UNESCO the Government of Norway will start financing UNESCO in order to let UNESCO to render the Government gratuitous help to the Government in realization of the project, the Government and UNESCO have agreed on the following:

Article 1. Aim and description

In order to assist in study, preservation and maintenance of the Tamgaly complex, Almaty Region, Republic of Kazakhstan by organizing complex scientific and culturological investigations, carrying out the measures on conservation and musefication of the objects of archeology, historic and ethno-cultural environment for stable maintenance of the complex and the development of tourist activity in the region, the present project supposes carrying out the following actions:

a) carrying out of complex scientific investigations including: archeological, historical and culturulogical, geomorphologic, dendrological, landscape-topographical and other ones;

b) the elaboration of the projects of historical-town planning organizations of the territory of the Tamgaly complex, conservation of wrecked petroglyphs, fortification of stone plates (slab) and terraces of a sanctuary, museumfication settlement, burial grounds and other objects of archeology, historical atmosphere and landscape;
